Before you start

Content Health analyzes your published pages against Google Search Console performance trends. It flags content that is losing traffic, dropping in rankings, or sitting on the edge of a traffic breakthrough โ€” so you can prioritize updates instead of guessing.

Where to find it Open SEO Rank Genius โ†’ Tools & Analytics โ†’ Content Health. The tab lives in the Analytics section alongside Keyword Tracker and SEO Advisor.

You will need:

  • Google Search Console connected for this site
  • At least a few months of GSC history for meaningful decay detection
Run scans monthly Content decay is gradual. Schedule a Content Health scan after major algorithm updates, seasonal traffic shifts, or quarterly content audits.

Content Health โ€” KPI row, status filter pills, and performance table with action shortcuts.

KPI cards explained

DecayingPages with sustained traffic loss over multiple periods โ€” highest priority for content refreshes.
DecliningEarly-stage drops in impressions, clicks, or average position โ€” fix before they become decaying.
OpportunitiesPages with rising impressions but underperforming CTR or position โ€” small meta or content tweaks can unlock gains.
GrowingHealthy pages gaining traction. Monitor these and link to them from decaying content.

Click Scan Content Health to pull fresh GSC data. Results are cached locally so the table loads instantly on return visits until you scan again.

Status filters

Filter pills above the table narrow results by status type. Use them to focus your workflow:

All Decaying Declining Opportunities

Showing 14 decaying pages ยท sorted by traffic loss

Status filter pills โ€” click a pill to show only pages in that category.

  • All โ€” every flagged page across all status types.
  • Decaying โ€” start here for quarterly content refresh sprints.
  • Declining โ€” catch problems early before traffic falls off a cliff.
  • Opportunities โ€” quick wins: rewrite titles, add FAQ schema, or expand thin sections.

The table columns show Page (title + URL), Status badge, Impressions, Clicks, Position (with change indicators), and an Action button.

Fix decaying content

Each row includes a contextual action button that deep-links to the right tool inside SEO Rank Genius:

1

Refresh Content

Opens the AI SEO Agent with the page pre-selected. Use it to rewrite outdated sections, expand thin content, or add fresh examples.

2

Update Meta

Jumps to the SEO Check tab for that post so you can rewrite the title and description โ€” especially useful for Opportunity pages with high impressions but low CTR.

3

Redirect

For pages that should be consolidated or retired, opens URL Medic to set a 301 redirect to a stronger replacement page.

Recommended workflow Filter Decaying โ†’ sort by largest click loss โ†’ Refresh Content on top 5 pages โ†’ add internal links from Growing pages โ†’ rescan in 30 days.

Prioritize decaying pages by click loss, refresh content, then verify recovery on the next scan.

Do not ignore Declining A page marked Declining today may be Decaying next month. Fix declining pages while the URL still has ranking equity and backlinks.

Troubleshooting

Connect GSC prompt instead of scan results

Content Health requires an active GSC connection. Go to Tools & Analytics โ†’ Search Console, connect your property, then return and run a scan.

Scan completes but table is empty

Congratulations โ€” no pages matched decay or decline thresholds. This usually means your content is healthy, or the site is too new for trend analysis. Check back after more GSC data accumulates.

KPI counts show dashes

You have not run a scan yet. Click Scan Content Health and wait for the analysis to finish (typically 10โ€“30 seconds depending on site size).

Page missing from the report

Only pages with measurable GSC impressions appear. Drafts, noindexed pages, and very new URLs may not have enough data. Confirm the page is indexed in GSC URL Inspection.

Action button opens wrong tab

Ensure you are on the latest plugin version. Clear browser cache and retry. If the issue persists, open the post editor manually and use the SEO metabox instead.
