Before you start

Keyword Tracker is a Pro analytics hub inside Tools & Analytics. It pulls search performance from Google Search Console, stores monthly snapshots on the cloud, and surfaces trends you can act on β€” without third-party rank tracking subscriptions.

Pro feature Keyword Tracker requires an active paid plan or trial. Free installs see an upgrade prompt. Connect GSC before the tracker can load any data.

Open it at:

SEO Rank Genius β†’ Tools & Analytics β†’ Keyword Tracker

Sub-tabs available:

OverviewKPI cards, position distribution, top movers, branded vs non-branded split.
RankingsFull keyword table with trend arrows, sparklines, filters, and search.
Index StatusURL Inspection results β€” indexed, blocked, crawl dates, submit actions.
Pages & InsightsPer-page GSC + GA4 performance and AI-powered keyword insights (Pro).

Requirements & GSC

Keyword Tracker runs entirely on GSC data within the existing webmasters.readonly scope β€” no extra Google verification needed.

  • Active Pro license (Personal, Pro, or Agency)
  • Google Search Console connected for this site
  • At least some organic impressions in GSC (brand-new sites may show empty states initially)
  • WordPress Administrator access
1

Connect GSC first

If you skipped this during setup, go to Tools & Analytics β†’ Search Console and complete OAuth. See our SEO Advisor guide for step-by-step connection help.

2

Verify the property matches

The GSC property URL must match your WordPress site address (including www vs non-www and HTTPS). Mismatched properties return empty or wrong data.

60 days for full trends Monthly trend arrows and sparklines need at least two complete months of snapshot data. Until then, a β€œCollecting data” banner appears on Overview β€” current positions still display.

Build your first report

On first visit, click Refresh in the header to pull the latest 90-day GSC dataset and store a snapshot on the cloud.

Keyword Tracker β€” header with Refresh, sub-tabs, KPI cards, and position distribution bar.

After the first refresh:

  1. Cloud stores a daily snapshot for trend comparison
  2. Overview populates with KPIs and distribution
  3. Rankings tab lists every query with current position
  4. Scheduled cron refreshes every 3 days automatically
Daily habit Click Refresh once each morning, scan Overview movers, then open Rankings to investigate any alert-badge keywords (priority drops of 5+ positions trigger alerts).

Overview tab

The Overview is your at-a-glance dashboard for site-wide search health.

KPI cardsKeywords tracked, total clicks, impressions, average position, and CTR.
Position distributionStacked bar showing how many keywords sit in Top 3, 4–10, 11–20, 21–50, and 50+.
Top moversBiggest gains and drops month-over-month β€” your daily action list.
Branded splitAuto-detects brand queries vs non-branded β€” useful for content vs brand monitoring.

When trend data is still collecting, a banner explains how many days of GSC history are available. Current positions and clicks still render β€” only the month-over-month arrows wait for two full months.

Rankings tab

The Rankings sub-tab is the detailed keyword table. Switch to it from the sub-nav or bookmark …&kt_sub=rankings.

Columns

  • Keyword β€” the search query from GSC
  • Position β€” current average position (30-day)
  • Change β€” month-over-month delta with ↑/↓ arrows
  • Clicks / Impressions / CTR β€” performance metrics
  • Landing page β€” URL ranking for this query
  • Sparkline β€” 3-month position history (when snapshots exist)

Filters

Use the filter pills to narrow the list:

All / Top 3 / Top 10Position bucket filters for quick wins and monitoring.
Rising / Falling / NewTrend-based filters β€” focus on keywords that moved this month.
PriorityKeywords you’ve marked as priority get alert badges on significant drops.

Click any keyword row to open a detail view with position history, landing page changes, and quick actions.

Index Status tab (bonus)

From the same sub-nav, Index Status runs batched URL Inspection checks. See indexed vs not-indexed counts, last crawl dates, and one-click IndexNow submission for Bing/Yandex. Run a full index sweep after publishing new content batches.

Content Brief

The Content Brief button in the header opens an AI-powered brief generator. Enter a target keyword and SEO Rank Genius creates an outline you can turn into a WordPress draft.

1

Pick a keyword

Enter a target keyword from Rankings (rising opportunities or content gaps work best) or type a new one you want to rank for.

2

Generate the brief

Click Generate Brief. AI analyzes GSC context, competing pages on your site, and SERP patterns to produce headings, talking points, suggested word count, and internal link targets.

3

Create a draft (optional)

Click Create Draft Post to save the brief as a WordPress draft with the outline pre-filled. Review and edit before publishing β€” nothing goes live automatically.

Uses AI credits Content Brief draws from your plan’s AI credit pool. Briefs are cached for 24 hours per keyword to avoid duplicate charges.

Troubleshooting

Upgrade prompt instead of tracker

Activate a Pro license under Account. Trials qualify. Sync license if you recently purchased.

β€œConnect GSC” message

Complete GSC OAuth under Tools & Analytics β†’ Search Console first. Keyword Tracker cannot load without it.

No keywords after refresh

Your site may have zero GSC impressions in the last 30 days. Verify the property in GSC directly, confirm ownership, and wait for Google to accumulate data on new sites.

Trend arrows show β€œβ€”β€ or are missing

Monthly comparisons need 60+ days of snapshots. Keep the plugin active and click Refresh periodically β€” the scheduled cron handles this automatically every 3 days.

Refresh button spins but nothing changes

Check your cloud connection under Account. Large sites may take 30–60 seconds. If it fails, look for a red error banner with the API message and retry after a few minutes.

Index Status scan stalls

URL Inspection runs in batches of 15 URLs. Leave the tab open during large scans (500 URLs). Progress resumes automatically if interrupted.
