Backlinks tab & Rank Genius link strategy
How the dedicated Backlinks report slot fits next to Rank Genius’s GSC-driven Local SEO + Backlinks card—plus what is live today versus clearly labeled placeholders.
Before you start
Two different surfaces cover “backlinks” in SEO Rank Genius today: a Tools & Analytics tab reserved for a future backlink index, and a Rank Genius (Pro + GSC) coaching card that names pages where extra links would help—built from search performance logic, not a third-party link graph.
- Backlinks report tab — /wp-admin/admin.php?page=seo-link-genius_tools&tab=backlinks (under the Reports category beside Link Reports, External Domains, and similar modules).
- Rank Genius — …&tab=rank-genius on the same Tools page; optional &rg_sub=history for the History sub-panel when you mark work complete.
Backlinks tab screen
Select SEO Rank Genius → Tools & Analytics, open the Reports strip, then choose Backlinks. The screen matches tab-backlinks.php: a white header band with purple accent iconography, primary title “Backlinks,” subtitle “Referring domains and backlink analysis,” and a centered dashed container.
Upcoming
Backlink analysis with referring domains, domain authority scores, and competitor insights is coming in a future update.
Coming SoonMock reflects the live “Upcoming” placeholder: dashed border, violet icon treatment, and orange Coming Soon badge from the plugin strings.
Rank Genius insights
After Pro + GSC prerequisites pass, Rank Genius loads the dashboard panel. Scroll past KPIs and intelligence cards; when the computed payload includes a backlink_strategy array, a section titled Local SEO + Backlinks appears with a nested card Backlink Strategy — Boost These Near-Page-1 Pages.
Educational calloutBacklinks are the #1 off-page ranking signal… (truncated UI copy mirrors the plugin’s explainer paragraph.)
Section header, card title/subcopy, badge count, and red info strip match the Rank Genius template when strategy items exist.
Per-page rows & actions
Each opportunity tile shows the query focus, canonical URL excerpt, average position color-coded against thresholds, a paragraph rationale, bullet “suggestions,” a five-dot difficulty meter with a text label, and Mark as Done (wired to Rank Genius history/regeneration flows). Overflow pages hide behind Show n more pages exactly like Quick Wins/content gap cards.

- Pitch guest quote to pet lifestyle blogs
- Get listed on local shelter resource pages
- Swap testimonials with a vet clinic partner site

Need fresh ideas?
When every visible tile is cleared, the UI offers a Show new recommendations (5 credits) regeneration path—same pattern as Quick Wins and Content Gaps.
Completion strip + History link mirror the regenerable card UX shared with other Rank Genius modules.
Monitoring workflow
Confirm GSC freshness
Use the Rank Genius range toggle (30 Days / 90 Days) so your backlink priorities align with the same window as KPIs and AI summaries.
Triage Local SEO + Backlinks
Sort mentally by position band and difficulty dots: tackle low-dot (green) wins first, then schedule harder outreach. Mark completed placements so history stays honest.
Cross-check outbound links
Until the dedicated Backlinks tab ships a crawl-based index, pair this workflow with External Domains / External Health reports to monitor who you link to—not who links to you.
Outreach prep
Use each row’s narrative plus bullet list as a mini creative brief: the plugin already encodes intent (local vs boost vs generic) via iconography in the live UI. Export or screenshot the card when briefing freelancers, then cross-link supporting articles from the Keyword Tracker guide when you need rank context for the same query.
