Link Whisper Review 2026: I Tested the Free Version and the New Pricing
Link Whisper is the best known internal linking plugin for WordPress. I installed the free version on a live test site, checked every plan on the pricing page this week, and worked out what it really costs once you add the SEO plugin you still need.
Link Whisper review: the verdict in 30 seconds
Link Whisper is a mature, focused internal linking tool with the clearest link reports in its category. The Starter plan costs $97 per year for one site and includes 2,000 AI credits. It only does internal linking, so you will still run a separate SEO plugin for titles, sitemaps and schema.
Best for: one established blog where internal linking is the bottleneck. Look elsewhere if: you run several sites or want linking and the rest of your SEO in one plugin.

Link Whisper is worth it if you run one WordPress site with 100 or more posts and internal linking is your main SEO gap. The free version audits your links and still suggests links from matching phrases, but you copy and paste each one yourself; AI suggestions and one click inserting are paid. Paid plans start at $97 per year for one site and go up to $497 per year for 50 sites.
What Link Whisper is and who makes it
The Link Whisper WordPress plugin finds internal linking opportunities across your posts and lets you add those links without hunting through old articles by hand. The company reports more than 50,000 sites using it and a 4.5 star rating on WordPress.org from over 100 reviews. You will see it written as Link Whisper and as LinkWhisper; the company now uses the one word version on its own site.
The problem it solves is real. Posts with no internal links pointing at them, often called orphan pages, are hard for visitors to find and receive little of the authority your site has built. Link Whisper scans your content, reports those gaps and suggests where new links should go.
Link Whisper pricing in 2026 (checked this week)
Most Link Whisper reviews still quote $77 or $187 a year. Those prices are gone. This is what the official pricing page lists as of 27 September 2026:

The per site price falls quickly on bigger plans, so the Starter plan is the expensive way to buy it.
Two details matter more than the headline number. First, the price moved during September: on 3 September the Starter plan was listed at $119, and by the end of the month it was back to $97. Check the page on the day you buy. Second, the 14 day money back guarantee covers first purchases only. Their terms exclude renewals, reactivations and AI credit purchases.
I installed the free Link Whisper plugin. Here is what happened
I installed Link Whisper Free 0.9.7 from WordPress.org on our demo site, which has 71 published posts and 14 pages, and ran it through its normal workflow.
The good part first. The first link scan is quick and simple. One click, a progress bar, and every post was indexed in under a minute. The reports are the best part of the product: inbound, outbound and external link counts per post, a domains report, broken links and a clicks report, all sortable and exportable.
The part the marketing skips. The free suggestions are phrase matches, not AI. In the post editor, Link Whisper lists sentences from your post and a page each one could link to. For my test post on internal linking it suggested sensible targets, such as linking a sentence about links hurting SEO to our broken links guide. But every suggestion showed AI Content Relatedness as Unknown until an AI account is connected, and there is no insert button: you copy the link and add it by hand. The dashboard opened with a Connect Link Whisper AI banner and 0 credits. So the free version is a very good linking audit tool with basic manual suggestions; the smart suggestions and one click inserting are what you pay for.
The cost question most reviews skip
Link Whisper does one job. It does not write meta titles, build XML sitemaps, add schema, manage redirects or track rankings. So the honest comparison is Link Whisper plus the SEO plugin you already need.

Yoast SEO Premium is $118.80 per site per year before VAT (yoast.com, 27 September 2026). Link Whisper figures use the plan that covers the site count.

Link Whisper vs SEO Rank Genius, honestly

Link Whisper has years of polish in its reports, a far larger user base, and a done for you linking service if you would rather pay someone to place the links. If linking is your only gap and you live on one site, it is a proven choice.

Who should buy Link Whisper
- Buy it if you run one mature blog, you already pay for an SEO plugin you like, and internal linking is the thing holding you back.
- Buy the Pro or Agency plan if you manage 10 or more sites and only want linking, because the per site price drops to $30 or less.
- Skip it if you want one plugin for linking, titles, sitemaps and schema, or if paying twice per site does not fit your budget.

Final verdict
Link Whisper earned its reputation. The scan is fast, the reports are the clearest in the category and orphan detection works. Its weak spots are the ones users have reported for years, suggestion relevance and slowdowns on large sites, plus a free version whose suggestions are manual and whose smart features now lean on AI credits.
